Dr Singh obtained his MB ChB from the University of Natal. He then studied internal medicine under Prof YK Seedat, and after obtaining his FCP, spent another four years specialising in cardiology at Wentworth Hospital, University of Natal Medical School.
Dr Singh opened his private practice at St Augustine’s Hospital in Durban in 1986. In the 1990s he admitted other partners and expanded the practice to Chatsmed Garden Hospital and Victoria Hospital. When Netcare Umhlanga Hospital opened in 1997, Dr Singh consolidated the practice to Umhlanga Hospital and Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital. Since then, he has established rooms at Netcare Alberlito Hospital, and a twice weekly service at Netcare Margate Hospital has been added.
Dr Singh specialises in interventional cardiology and has a special interest in the growing field of cardio-oncology. He passed the board-certified ICOS cardio-oncology examination (USA) in 2020. He is president of the Cardio-Oncology Society of Southern Africa (COSOSA). He is also a director of the Diabetic and Cardio-Metabolic department at Netcare Umhlanga Hospital, which incorporates cardio-oncology.
Dr Barnabas joined the practice in 2009. He attended Michaelhouse where he matriculated as a top achiever. After obtaining his MB ChB from the University of Natal Medical School, he completed his internship, community service and physician training in various Durban Provincial hospitals and also practised in London, UK, for a year. His cardiology training was at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, Nelson Mandela School of Medicine.
He is an interventional cardiologist and specialises in coronary angiography, complex interventional procedures, rotablation, pacemaker implantations and transoesophageal echocardiograms. In addition, he has a specialised interest in management of patients with heart failure, syncope, diabetes and hypertension.
He is married to Nishani, a medical doctor, and has two children. He loves spending time with his family. His hobbies include hiking and cycling.
Dr McKibbin attended the University of the Witwatersrand where he obtained his MB BCh. He did his cardiology training under Professor Barlow at the Johannesburg Hospital and then worked at the JG Strijdom Hospital as Principal Cardiologist. He went into private practice in 1986, initially at Morningside Clinic, and then Sunninghill Hospital, Sandton, until March 2018 when he moved to KwaZulu-Natal and joined the practice of Drs YT Singh and Connel Barnabas.
He has been involved in interventional cardiology (coronary balloon angioplasty and stenting) since it started in 1983 in Johannesburg. He has a particular interest in the treatment of High Cholesterol and in the prevention of coronary disease. He is very involved with complex angioplasty and rotoblation.
Dr Aveen Mahabal attained his medicine undergraduate degree MB ChB from the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. He trained as a specialist physician in various Durban hospitals and became a Fellow of The College of Physicians of South Africa. He then furthered his studies, attaining the Certificate in Cardiology (SA) and worked as a cardiologist at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital and Grey’s Hospital. Presently he works at Netcare St Augustine’s, Netcare Umhlanga, Netcare Alberlito and Netcare Margate hospitals. His specialities are coronary intervention, arrhythmias, pacemakers, heart failure and valvular heart disease.
Dr Ramachandran completed her MB ChB at the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. After completing her internship and community service, she specialised to become a Fellow of the College of Physicians (SA) while working at King Edward Hospital and surrounding hospitals in KwaZulu-Natal. Thereafter she was trained in cardiology at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital and obtained her Certificate in Cardiology (SA).
She currently consults at Netcare St Augustine’s, Netcare Umhlanga, Netcare Alberlito and Netcare Margate hospitals.
She specialises in interventional cardiology, women’s cardiovascular health, arrythmias, heart failure and echocardiography.
